While it was the third time President’s rule was imposed in the state, it was the first time it was done because of the inability of political parties to form a government after an election. The newly elected legislative assembly will be kept in suspended animation for now. The assembly may be revived and President’s rule lifted as and when some party works out a combination that is able to offer a stable government.
