Fox has announced today that a companion piece to Deadpool 2, which released in May earlier this year, will come later this December. Judging by a Ryan Reynolds tweet, the Princess Bride-inspired retelling has Deadpool telling a Christmas story to Fred Savage, a direct reference to Princess Bride where a child Savage sat in bed while his grandfather reads him a story.
The story Deadpool is telling is likely a sanitized version of Deadpool 2, with way less violence and expletives for the kids. Presumably the movie will humorously talk around some of the more explicit aspects of that movie, as some of the deaths were fairly graphic.
It would also make sense for the movie to set up the X-Force a bit more, which both started and collapsed within Deadpool 2. An X-Force movie has been announced, but has had no details, and presumably would be under Disney's purview now. This also seems very convenient for Disney to see if Deadpool can still retain an audience at PG-13, in line with the rest of the MCU.
The untitled Deadpool companion piece will get a limited engagement release on December 21.
